October 4, 9:15 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.

Notice and Explanation of Meeting
August 24, 2009

Dear Friends,

Through the summer months the Search Committee and the Vestry have been hard at work in their leadership ministries. The Search Committee has completed the Parish Profile and will soon send it to the Church House for Bishop Chane's approval. Then the next step will be to begin receiving names of the priests to be considered and interviewed as St. Mary Magdalene's new Rector. There are several steps in this process and will take at least several months.

The Vestry has been making plans for our future together. Although the parish is still without a Treasurer, our finances have been responsibly handled by the Wardens, the Counters, the Financial Secretary and our Bookkeeper, Sory Davis.

Earlier this year, Mr. Davis completed a financial review for the 2007 budget year and is currently reviewing the records for the 2008 budget year. One of the recommendations from his 2007 review involved changing the date of the parish's annual meeting from October to after the first of each year. This would allow parishoners to review and analyze the financial statements for the full fiscal year - January to December, as opposed to a partial year of January to September as was before.

A change in the parish by-laws is required for this to take place. The Vestry has decided to have the annual meeting on Sunday, October 4, 2009 as usual for the sole purpose of voting on this by-law change.  The meeting will then be continued on Sunday, February 14, 2010. At this continued meeting new Vestry elections will be held and ministry reports will be presented. This will allow for future annual meetings to be held in early February of each year hereafter.

This statement is serving as the thirty day notice for our annual parish meeting to be held October 4, 2009 between services at 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend this meeting of the parish and our life together.

Also, please continue to pray for the Vestry and the Search Committee during this time of discernment and transition as we seek the best possible person to lead the parish as Rector in the mission and ministry of St. Mary Magdalene Church. It continues to be a privilege and honor to serve as your Interim Rector and I appreciate and give thanks for each of you.

Sincerely,

The Reverend Sherril L. Page, Interim Rector
