Our Ministries
We believe God calls all persons to ministry, whether in the church, the community, the world, at work, in church or in their family. All of our ministries are open to anyone.
Ministries of Worship
Acolytes: Serve at the Altar with the Priest every Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service.
Altar Guild: Prepare the altar for communion for each service including linens, decorations, wall hangings and floral arrangements.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs): Assist in communion at the church services.

Lectors: Read the Lessons and prayers each Sunday.
Ushers: Welcome everyone at worship service, assist in liturgy and provide general knowledge to newcomers.
Music:
Our choirs: Chancel Choir & Sounds of the Spirit Choir
Our program is designed to help the chorister get the most from choir participation. Through music instruction and vocal practice, the chorister develops talent and receives a basic music education.
Rehearsal times: Sounds of Spirit: Thursdays at 6:30 pm and Saturday at noon;
Chancel: Thursdays at 7:30 pm

Ministries of Service - Community Outreach
The Chase Center: Members prepare, deliver and serve meals once a month to this shelter for men. Seeking volunteers!
Thrift Shop: Sell clothing and home items for men, women, and children at very reasonable prices.
- Open Friday’s & Saturday’s from 10 AM to 2 PM
Environmental Concerns: Seeks to educate members and community on environmental concerns.
Hunger Ministry: The annual walk for hunger is held in October. Monthly, we collect and contribute money to the Diocese of Washington Hunger Fund.
A variety of ministries of service: Many of our church groups undertake ministries for: The Episcopal Children’s Center, Men’s Homeless Shelter, Women’s Shelters, Christmas for families, and more.
Spiritual Life and Fellowship
Tuesday Night Prayer Group: Open to everyone who would like to pray together and deepen their prayer life. Tuesday evenings 6:30 pm in the chapel.
The Order of the Daughters of the King: A women’s order with vows of prayer, service and evangelism.
Brotherhood of St. Andrew: A men’s organization with the goal of Spreading Christ’s Kingdom among men and boys in the Episcopal/Anglican Communion.
Lay Eucharistic Visitor: Assists the clergy to take sacraments to homes and hospitals.
International Council: Represents all of the countries that make up our congregation and plans the celebrations of cultures and the International Festival Weekend.
Women’s Group: A women’s organization of sisterhood and Outreach Activities. February, 2010 -- All women of St. Mary Magdalene are reminded to pay their annual dues of $10.00. Please see Carol Gardner.
Youth Group: Provides spiritual support and includes ministries of the youth worship service, service in the community and social activities for High School students.
Lifelong Discipleship: Christian Education and Formation
Sunday School for children and youth is held during the 10:30 service. Classes are focused on scripture and faith development.
Baptism: Baptism is held several times a year. Register by filling out the Baptism Information form or call the office. Baptism preparation class for parents and godparents is held before the class.
Confirmation: Confirmation is the opportunity for persons to make a personal commitment of faith. Please call the rector to register and class details.

The Vestry
The Vestry is the governing board of the church. Made up of elected positions, the vestry oversees ministries of the Church mission, managing finance and stewardship.
Fellowship: Special Church Wide Events
Members of the congregation gather after the 10:30 a.m. service each Sunday to share in a coffee hour supported by the various ministry groups. Additionally, there are many special church-wide events celebrated:
- Honor our Graduates Sunday
- The Nina Pillsbury Youth Scholarship
- Thanksgiving Luncheon and Recognition of Outstanding volunteers
- International Sunday
- Cultural Celebrations: come learn about other cultures and celebration our worldwide membership.
- Ministry Marathon: come learn about your spiritual gifts and help chart the future of the church.
- Pancake Supper
Stewardship: Pledging Support
Members of St. Mary Magdalene are asked to pledge their financial support to provide for the expenses and ministries of the church. The Stewardship Committee asks that all “open their hearts to God, step out in faith and invest in our uplifting spiritual future.”
