Trees for Sacred Spaces
On Saturday, March 11, 2017 more than a dozen trees were planted on St Mary Magdalene's ground. This project started in February with a workshop in led by Kolya Braun-Grenier from the Interfaith Partners with the Chesapeake. Dr. Bruan-Greiner gave a slideshow presentation on the importance of watershed restoration, and led an interactive session along with the attendees which was both fun and informative. The program is funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust who work with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay which provides a site assessment to match soil types with tree preferences, a planting plan, and tools and training on planting day. Trees are native to the Maryland area.

St. Mary Magdalene is participating with the Trees for Sacred Places program in Montgomery County. This is a partnership with the Mont. Co. Dept. of Environment to encourage watershed restoration and control stormwater runoff.

St Mary's Upkeep:

St. Mary Magdalene is pursuing a few beautification projects in 2017:
- The parking lot was completely redone. This allowed us to add a few more parking spaces.
- The carpet in the sanctuary was replaced with a brand bew one. The blessing took place on Sunday, February 26th at the 10:30am service.
- SMM participated in the “Trees for Sacred Place Project” (by Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake and Alliance for Chesapeake Bay) by planting more than a dozen trees on Saturday, March 11th.

There are a few more projects that are being considered. Stay tuned!!‚Äč
